Harry Ryde George Allport. He was the  2nd Saloon Steward on the Lusitania. He was born 9 May 1880 in Stepney, London, to Joseph Ryde, b. 1850 in Lancashire, and Mary Grace Angel (nee Leaver; born ca. 1863) Allport. His parents had married in the spring of 1880 (shortly before his birth) in the Stepney district of London. He was christened in the Church of England on 19 June 1880 (?) in St. James’ Church, Ratcliff, Middlesex. His mother died, aged only 17, in Stepney, shortly after his birth. His father then married Emily Eastham in late 1887 in Lambeth, London. Harry may have had half-brothers and/or sisters. It is possible that he in 1891 lived in Belgrave Road, Toxteth Park, Lancashire (in/near Liverpool) in the household of his paternal grandmother Catherine Allport, b. ca. 1819 in Ireland. His father was in 1911 a hotel proprietor living in London with his wife Emily. Harry lived in Australia for a while, working in a café, but returned to England. He survived the sinking of the Lusitania. He married Mary Algoe Lewis (b. 1876 in Kentucky) 23 April 1922 in New York. He was made a US citizen in 1940. He died in Orange County, California, on 5 November 1966.
