He was a trimmer on the Lusitania and was the son of the late William, a flour mills labourer born about 1858 in Lancashire, and Sarah Ann (nee Lowden; she had been born about 1863 in Lancashire) Lawton. He was born 25 July 1880 at Liverpool and was christened on 5 August the same year in Saint Peter’s Church in Liverpool, in the Church of England. His parents had married in the second quarter of 1880 at Liverpool. In 1891, he was 10 years old and lived at Robsart Street in Everton, Lancashire, with his parents and siblings Sarah Ann, 7, William, 5, Elizabeth E., 1, and Alice, an infant. He was the husband of Margaret Lawton (nee Fagan), of 2, Shaw Terrace, Liverpool. John Lawton married Margaret Fagan in St. Francis Xavier, Liverpool, on 26 December, 1907 (West Derby). The wedding was a Roman Catholic one. His father was a William Lawton.
