Born at Liverpool. His parents had married in the second quarter of 1877 in Liverpool. In 1901, the Beggs family lived at Dyson Street in Walton on the Hill in Lancashire. Both parents had been born in Scotland. John was 12 years old and he had five sisters at the time; Jane H., 21, a ‘domestic,’ Charlotte, 19, an assistant school mistress, Elizabeth, 16, a paper merhcant’s clerk, Florence, 9, and Barbara, 6. He was the Senior 6th Engineer on the Lusitania.
